Essay on ‘Nurture nature and save future’
Nurture Nature and Save the Future
-Lord Byron
“There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is a society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more”
Nature is a miracle, a miracle that sustains life. The vivid Spring, lively Summer, cosy autumn and misty Winter, each season is a spectacle beyond imagination. Be with nature for some time and you will find yourself relaxed, soothed and healed.
Nature has the ability to uplift, bring you out of the dark and rejuvenate your soul. Since times immemorial man has enjoyed the bounties of nature and benefitted from its abundance. A daily walk in nature can keep you healthy both physically and mentally. The privileges nature has to offer are many: try to connect to nature, just listen to the music nature has to offer, enjoy the fragrance of newly blossoming
flowers, be amazed by the vivid colours around and immerse yourself in its beauty. It is the best stress buster.
Nature like a mother has been providing us without any question or claim. It has nurtured us with patience and we have exploited it beyond the limit. We have always been thankless but nature has never failed us. Nature is pleased with simplicity but we have made life complex and destroyed nature to its core, under the veil of development and now we seek peace in its lap.
We have put huge pressure on nature by using its resources unmindfully. At the rate at which the population of the world is increasing, the resources of nature are not renewed at that pace, as a result, nature cannot support us for long. All human activities are dependent on three main resources: food, energy and timber and unfortunately, these come from nature. Human desires, dreams and demands
have taken a toll on nature. This has resulted in deforestation, degradation of the natural fertility of the soil, loss of biodiversity and pollution. Because of this, the natural ecosystems are disturbed. Another disastrous repercussion of our negligence is climate change. This has become a major reason for the extinction of many species of plants and animals and many are on the verge of extinction. The impact of global warming is not only limited to plants and animals but also to humans. The reality is that we have doomed ourselves by interfering with nature.
Now, our urgent intervention is required at this stage, not to destroy nature but to preserve it. Most important is to ‘Speak up’, ‘Train’ and ‘Teach’ our kids and people around us about the necessity of conserving nature. Set an example for others by using and buying reused, repaired and recycled products. Walk or cycle your way to most places, use public transport, save water, become energy efficient, and use less paper. We should let our children grow in the company of nature, let them discover the joy of watching birds build their nests, honey bees sucking nectar, rabbits hopping and a sapling growing into a tree. Keep them away from gadgets and close to nature, if we want to save our future.
For most of history, man has had to fight nature to survive; in this century he is beginning to realize that, in order to survive, he must protect it.
—Jacques-Yves Cousteau
